Season 2024-2025: Season Launch
On December 7, the 2025 season was officially launched at Santa Teresa National Park.
The photo exhibition “The Invention of a Landscape: Snapshots in Santa Teresa Park” was inaugurated and remained open until March. It was installed near the Capatacía area (along the Greenhouse trail) and could also be visited at night thanks to its lighting.
The exhibition was the result of a joint effort between the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism and the Photography Center of the Montevideo City Government, with the collaboration of the Historical Studies Department of the Army General Staff.
It consisted of 30 panels presenting a timeline from 1916 to 1956, highlighting key milestones in the creation of Santa Teresa Park, along with photographic records by historian Horacio Arredondo.
The exhibition featured more than 50 photographs, and the accompanying texts were based on Arredondo’s own writings.
The director of SEPAE, Colonel David Díaz, welcomed attendees to what he described as “this national paradise, a source of pride for Rocha and for the entire country.”
He noted that the park had recently been declared a National Historic Monument and recalled those who played a key role in its founding process, including General Architect Alfredo R. Campos, Colonel Alfredo Baldomir, and Horacio Arredondo, “who, after completing the reconstruction of the Santa Teresa Fortress in 1927, envisioned, proposed and created this national paradise.”
He also paid tribute to “the soldiers of the old Rocha barracks and many unsung individuals, including laborers, workers and craftsmen,” who contributed with dedication and effort.
He expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism, the Rocha Departmental Government, various military units, the Rocha Tourism Corporation, neighboring communities and local businesses for their support and participation in the event.
To conclude, the National Director of Tourism, together with the Commander of the Army Logistics Support Command, General José M. Martínez, and the Director of SEPAE, officially opened the season with the lighting of the traditional bonfire.
More than 1,000 people enjoyed live music performances, food stands and recreational activities for children, in an event open to the whole family.
Also in attendance were the Commander of Army Division IV, military, police and departmental authorities, the Army Band of the 4th Infantry Brigade, and the general public.
